Saving money these days seems to have become a new golden rule. But do not be fooled my friends, saving money does not necessarily mean not spending it. I am a cheap, all my friends know it, and I take pride in what has become my reputation.

While the existance of Thrift/Dollar stores may be one of life’s mose evident beauties, there are several rules to keep in mind while raiding your deal destination of choice.
  1. Be aware of the “too good to be true” idiom. (While this does not apply to everything, it is important to make sure your purchases do not go to waste! While it may be hard to believe, some items can be found at a better value in bigger retail stores)
  2. Keep an open mind. Deals are deals! (It seems the variety of brands and items many Dollar Stores are sporting are growing, remember GENERIC BRANDS ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY)
  3. Get creative.
  4. Lastly, CHECK OFTEN! There is a number of us who will always remember the Dollar Tree Movie Storm of 2011. I made it out with Adam Sandler's Punch Drunk Love (which I have yet to watch!) Many Dollar Stores get shipments of items that other stores have ordered too much of, this is great when shopping for seasonal items such as Christmas, Halloween, Fourth of July etc.

So keep your eyes open friends and your hearts full. Deals are all around us, we just need to learn to believe in the value of each individual dollar.
